Since 2013

On 25th of December 2015, KUSWE brought together a variety of disciplines to bring awareness to breast cancer with a day-long event. MEMEDER and Cancer Warriors was hosted in Koç University Student Center, breast cancer and early diagnosis leaflets were distributed by the info stands. Additionally; pink ribbons, tshirts and thematic cupcakes were sold and profits were donated.

Panels began with the opening speech of Koç University Rector Prof.Dr.Umran İnan. Koç University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Internal Medicine and Hematology Specialist Prof.Dr.Mustafa Çetiner,  Siemens Turkey Heath Marketing Manager Gözde Kurtay, General Electric Turkey Information Leader Özlem Aksoy, İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine faculty member and Breast Health Center Director Prof.dr.Vahit Özmen was hosted as panelists and highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer.

Importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer was emphasized with products sold as well as the pink-lit Koç University Clock Tower, which was KUSWE’s main goal of this event. Profits from the sales were used to provide mammography to financially disadvantaged women. KUSWE believes that in addition to pink illuminated clock tower, “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment” panel contributed to spreading awareness.

As KUSWE, we are trying to reach a large audience to spread awareness about breast cancer and early diagnosis with informative seminars and challenges on Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) since 2013. This year, due to the pandemic, our events were held online where we started a #somethingpinkforsomethinggood challenge on our social media and organized a Breast Cancer Awareness seminar on Zoom.
